Angelina Jolie, originally Angelina
Jolie Voight (born on the 4th of June 1975 in Los Angeles, California), is an
American actor, director, and producer who is well-known for her sexual appeal
as in her work for the cause of humanitarian aid. Her role as a supporting
actress in Girl, Interrupted (1999) was the part she won in the Academy Award.
Jolie, the daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent most of her childhood in New
York. She moved to Los Angeles when she was 11. After two years at the Lee
Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, she enrolled at Beverly Hills High
School. New York University later taught her drama. Apart from acting in
theater productions, she also played the role of a model as well as appearing
in music videos.Jolie's first big movie role was in Hackers (1995) which was
the filming of which she had her first marriage with British actor Jonny Lee
Miller (married 1996 divorced in 1999). It was not a huge success, like a
variety of other films. Jolie was the segregationist wife of Alabama's governor,
garnering plenty of attention in 1997. Jolie later won an award, the Golden
Globe Award. Jolie played a supermodel suffering from drug addiction in the HBO
film Gia in 1999. The performance won her numerous awards including a Golden
Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award. She co-starred with John Cusack in
Pushing Tin in 1999. In the following year, she tied the knot with Thornton
(divorced in 2003). Jolie portrayed the carjacker's girlfriend (Nicolas Cage),
in Gone in Sixty Seconds 2000. Then, she took on the British accent and
mastered street fighting and kickboxing in order to be able to play the
characters of Lara Croft Tomb Raider 2001 and Lara Croft Tomb Raider The Cradle
of Life 2003. In 2004 she portrayed the mother of Alexander the Great in Oliver
Stone's Alexander as well as starred alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law in
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, a science fiction thriller set in 1930s
New York City. Both films disappointed at the box-office, but Jolie's Mr.
& Mrs. Smith (2005) was an enormous success. Jolie played a character
acting as a normal homewife during the making of the movie. Brad Pitt became
her co-star.
